April 2008

Hello Patrons and Friends!

Winter gives way to Spring, it is going to be a great year! Over this past winter we took stock of the museum and memorial projects and had several fund-raising meetings to set our sights on real progress for 2008. To those who have been with us for a while, thank you for your patience and support. To those visiting our websites for the first time, welcome and be assured we appreciate your interest!

The first newsletter of 2008 is in the mail to fire companies across the state as well as to our subscribing members. It will be posted to the website in May. The first Sporting event to benefit the Fallen Firefighter Memorial took place on April 1st. The next event is the Newark Bears game on May 15th. See the schedule of sports benefits elsewhere on the website for details including how to order tickets and T shirts!

The first vintage fire engine muster of the season will occur at Malaga on May 17th. See the schedule of events elsewhere on the website for more details. Former Governor Thomas Kean, our Honorary Chairman recently issued a letter encouraging support for the museum and memorial. You may know that this project started out as a state- funded museum but with the 2008 state budget deficit we are unlikely to see any funding from Trenton so we set a target of $2 million to be raised in subscription memberships, corporate sponsorships and contributions from the public so we can get Phase One construction started.

We have new folks interested in helping the memorial or museum projects, and we have room for you to help as well. We remain a 100% volunteer group of citizens committed to seeing the NJ Fire Museum and NJ Fallen Firefighter's Memorial become realities. Our small collection of museum-owned apparatus had to be moved last Fall. With the help of fire- fighters and good citizens we safely move the rigs to a safe storage site. Read the current newsletter for information about a public event being held at the storage site
on June 8th. If you like old fire trucks, this is an event NOT to be missed!

Every small donation adds to the total. Please consider adding your name to the list of
membership contributors or memorial pavers.

If you can contribute in any way, we'd like to hear from you! Please contact Helen at
(732) 463-7445 or myself at (732) 539-0168 or send us an email via the website or call
and leave your name and phone number at the business office (732) 222-5783.
